Westin continues to evolve its future-facing, nature-inspired approach to design with Haven, the brand’s signature public space concept.
The future-facing, globally minded approach to the interior landscape accommodates the varied and rapidly changing needs of the contemporary traveler. Flexible, customized spaces can be adapted for individuals and groups, work and play, solitude
and socializing. The seamless design of the modern oasis suggests a natural progression through the space and creates an inviting environment in which guests can relax and recharge.
Westin's Haven serves as a modern-day oasis, a respite from life's stresses. Guided by the principles of biophilic design, the interiors bring nature into the space to create an atmosphere of rejuvenation. Every aspect of the space is designed to promote a sense of well-being, from the fluid nature of the space to its vibrant palette.
Elements in a landscape are defined by layering color, pattern and texture. We took this approach to color and materials for Westin's interiors, creating a dimensional and balanced aesthetic.
Haven’s Landing Zone is a transitional space for arrival and check-in. From the moment guests step into the Landing Zone, they are transported away from the everyday and into a world of revitalization.
The check-in pod design is a sculptural visual anchor for reception, informed by the biophililcdesign principles. Its shape and orientation support a personal interaction with the guest. It has been designed for good ergonomics to enhance the well-being of associates.
The Prospect Zone is a versatile adaptable area within Haven, designed for individuals and groups. Equally suited for working and socializing, the Prospect Zone is a constant center of activity and interaction.
The Panoramic Sofa is a large-scale sofa that acts as an anchor for the Prospect Zone. Its organic form emphasizes the meandering path and creates areas with higher levels of engagement and visibility.
Inspired by the biophilic principles, the Lookout Table may be customized with regional forms and materials.
The sculptural design of the Lookout Table references forms and materials from nature. It provides a flexible space so guests can be part of the energy of the lobby.
The bar represents a key anchor of the Prospect Zone. It may be a transitional experience with an offering that reflects the time of day, or one that’s open only during certain times of day. The design is inspired by biophilic design principles and the Design Narrative of the location.

"Erin has a brilliant design sensibility but also understands the realities of the hotel business. As a result, she has developed not only a stunning and differentiating design aesthetic for Westin, but one that is financially and functionally desirable to our owners and developers." Design plays a major role in shaping the guest experience at Westin. Every aspect of the brand’s aesthetic is guided by the brand’s positioning, For a Better You, and the Six Pillars of Well-Being. In this video, we show you Haven, Westin’s public space concept. Using the Westin Gaslamp San Diego as a case study, you’ll experience Haven’s vertical garden, intuitive zoning and modern, residential aesthetic. Together, the brand positioning and biophilic inspiration create a meaningful foundation for Westin design, giving designers the freedom to infuse local flavor into each hotel while telling a cohesive brand story.
